Dangerous Dave and Sprocket

Photos: Dangerous Dave

This email came in today in response to Will Guyan's excellent "Green Valley TT" column from the October issue.

"It was a pleasant surprise to see my motorcycle dog, Sprocket, mentioned in Mr. Guyan's entertaining story entitled "Ye Old Green Valley TT." For the record, Sprocket rode atop a thick black rug that was through-bolted to the gas tank in place of the Triumph's tank-top parcel grid. This gave her a secure platform from which to "Hang Twenty." The only part of our bike that was "greasy" or "nasty" was its underside; as a good running Triumph's should be!

One final note: a '50's pre-unit Triumph, however well-ridden, is no match for a Norton Commando. Any self-respecting fondler of "Cammy" Norton parts should know this. Sprocket's rode upon a well-sorted 1965 Tiger 650 wearing Ceriani forks, a TD1 Yamaha front wheel, and suspended in the rear by my best pair of S&W shocks.

And yes, in our prime, Sprocket presented a wagging tail to more than a few disc-braked, tubeless tired, radar infected riders over western Sonoma County tight and bumpy back roads!"
